Walnut and maple, simply and beautifully paired — a single walnut plank wrapped river-edge style so the grain flows uninterrupted around all four sides. The top is inlaid with maple molding, giving it a quiet elegance that feels considered without being fussy. Brass hinges are set flush, and the lid closes with a satisfying click. Inside, maple dividers organize recipes by type, and a built-in card holder keeps a recipe upright and readable while cooking or baking. Every detail has a job to do.

The design started with a single plank — wrapping it river-edge style meant the grain could travel continuously around the box without interruption, giving the piece a cohesive, almost seamless look. The maple molding was inlaid into the lid by hand, and the brass hinges were set flush so nothing interrupts the clean lines of the exterior. Inside, maple dividers and a card holder were fitted to bring real function to the space. But the build that mattered most happened away from the shop — friends and family filling cards with recipes and handwritten notes, completing the box in a way no tool ever could.
